Front End

Front End

Generally speaking the words front end, in Synchrotron radiation world, define the ensemble of vacuum pipes, shutters, fittings and UHV chambers that connect one synchrotron radiation ring with each synchrotron radiation beamline.
They are positioned tangents to the ring and are mainly used to insert radiation blocks, stopping the light emitted from the electrons, as well as to define and control the accepted solid angles of the emitted radiation and, last but not least, to protect, via remote controlled valves, the vacuum conditions of the ring from any accident that could happen along the beamlines.

Front ends are completed with pneumatic actuators, water cooling systems and power cables.

Samples of past RMP realizations in this field are shown.
